Monsoon horror in Himachal: Cloudbursts and floods claim 16 lives!

Himachal Pradesh is facing the full wrath of the monsoon, with intense cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides devastating several parts of the hill state. Between June 20 and June 30, at least 16 people have lost their lives due to drowning, electrocution, and rain-triggered calamities, while five others remain missing, according to official reports.

Districts like Kullu, Mandi, and Chamba are among the worst hit, with rivers overflowing, roads caving in, and entire villages getting cut off. Torrential rains have also caused extensive damage to infrastructure, sweeping away vehicles and submerging homes. Rescue teams, including NDRF and local authorities, are battling tough terrain and weather to find the missing and assist stranded residents.

The state government has urged tourists to avoid unnecessary travel, while emergency helplines and temporary shelters have been set up. With the IMD warning of continued heavy rainfall, residents remain on edge. Himachal’s fragile mountain ecosystem once again stands exposed to the brutal impact of climate-driven extreme weather.
