At just 19, Samaira Hullur from Karnataka became India’s youngest commercial pilot - without a fancy background or airline sponsorship.
Her journey proves that with dedication, planning, and family support, anyone can fly high. To become a pilot in India, students must clear Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. Then, they must pass six DGCA ground exams and complete 200 hours of flying in small aircraft. After this, candidates apply for a Commercial Pilot License (CPL).
To fly big jets like Airbus or Boeing, one must complete a “Type Rating” - advanced simulator training that costs ₹12–20 lakh. The total cost for the independent route is ₹65–75 lakh, while cadet programs can cost up to ₹1.2 crore.
Samaira chose the independent path and succeeded through sheer hard work.
She now plans to fly internationally and encourages others: “It’s tough, but possible. Follow your dream, and don’t stop till you touch the sky!”
