During his official visit to the United States, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar strongly condemned the recent Pahalgam terror attack, calling it an "act of economic warfare" aimed at destabilising India’s tourism-driven economy. Speaking to reporters ahead of the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Washington, scheduled for July 1, 2025, Jaishankar emphasised that targeting tourist regions like Pahalgam is part of a larger strategy by hostile forces to undermine India's growth and global image.
The attack, which occurred earlier this week, shocked the nation and drew sharp condemnation from both domestic and international quarters. Jaishankar’s remarks signal a shift in how India is framing terrorism - not just as a threat to security, but also as an attack on economic sovereignty.
While in the U.S., Jaishankar will also hold bilateral talks with top American officials, reinforcing Indo-U.S. ties in security, trade, and Indo-Pacific cooperation. The statement on Pahalgam sets a serious tone ahead of the Quad’s regional security discussions.
