During France's Fete de la Musique on June 21, 2025, 145 people reported being pricked with syringes, officials said.
The annual street music festival in Paris saw massive crowds, but the celebration turned alarming as 13 victims in the capital and others nationwide reported needle stabs. Authorities suspect these could be "needle spiking" attacks, possibly involving drugs like Rohypnol to harm victims, often women.
Social media posts before the event urged targeting women, warned feminist influencer Abrège Soeur. French police arrested 12 suspects, including four in Angoulême linked to about 50 cases. Some victims felt unwell and underwent toxicology tests.
The interior ministry is investigating seriously, with ongoing efforts to identify the substances used. Similar attacks occurred in the UK and Europe years ago, raising concerns about festival safety.
