New Aadhaar App Goes Live: Full Setup & Features Guide!

The UIDAI today introduced its revamped Aadhaar mobile app, designed to shift India’s over-1.4 billion-identity ecosystem into a modern, secure, digital-first mode.

Highlights:

  • Digital-only Aadhaar card: Users no longer need to carry a physical or printed copy of their Aadhaar. The app stores a secure digital version on the smartphone.

  • Face-scan authentication & biometric lock: The app introduces facial-recognition login mandatory at first setup, and locks biometrics to prevent misuse.

  • Selective sharing & QR code: You can now share only the required data (e.g., name + photo) without exposing full address or DOB. A QR code enables ID verification without handing over your device.

  • Multi-profile support: Families with multiple Aadhaar cards linked to the same mobile number can manage up to five profiles in one device.

  • Offline viewing support: After the initial setup, users can access their Aadhaar details offline for viewing—even without internet.

How to set it up in minutes:

  1. Download the “Aadhaar App” from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

  2. Register using your registered mobile number (linked with your Aadhaar).

  3. Verify via OTP and perform the face-scan when prompted.

  4. Set a secure app-PIN or biometric lock.

  5. Add any linked family Aadhaar profiles if needed.

  6. Explore features: view digital Aadhaar, enable biometric lock, generate QR code, and manage sharing permissions.

Why it matters:
This launch marks a significant leap in India’s digital-ID infrastructure—emphasising privacy, user control and convenience. Citizens can now carry their Aadhaar securely on their phone, verify identity seamlessly, and avoid physical distractions.
