"No Innocent should be punished": Ajit Pawar on Mumbai train blast case!

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar reacted strongly after the Supreme Court’s temporary stay on the Bombay High Court’s acquittal of 12 accused in the 2006 Mumbai train blasts. He emphasized, “No innocent should be punished, but those who are guilty must be punished,” highlighting the delicate balance between justice and fairness .

Pawar reminded the media that while the state is appealing the High Court’s verdict, it stands firmly for due legal process without bias. “We are not against anyone… but we do not support anyone either,” he said, clarifying the government's neutral yet decisive stance.

The Supreme Court froze the High Court order but did not prevent the release of those acquitted. Importantly, the Court ruled that the High Court’s judgment cannot serve as precedent in cases under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

Pawar also pledged that the state government would present strong legal arguments at the Supreme Court, addressing alleged procedural gaps in the High Court’s decision. His remarks aim to reassure victims' families while upholding the rule of law.
