The UK has officially launched a fully digital eVisa system for Indian travellers from February 25, 2026. This marks a major shift in how visas are issued and managed.
Instead of getting a visa sticker stamped inside their passport, travellers will now receive a digital immigration status record. This eVisa will be linked directly to their passport and accessible through a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) online account.
The biggest relief? Applicants no longer need to submit their passports for physical visa stamping. Everything - from applying to storing visa details - can now be managed online.
To access the eVisa, travellers must create a UKVI account using their passport details, visa application number, and contact information. Identity verification may require a smartphone app, though alternative options are available.
However, visitors travelling under Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or those with right to abode do not require an eVisa.
The move aims to make travel smoother, faster, and more secure for Indian applicants.
