In a chilling revelation, skeletal remains discovered in an abandoned house in Hyderabad’s Nampally area were identified thanks to an old Nokia mobile phone and demonetised currency notes . The remains were discovered on Monday, when a local boy entered the unused property to retrieve a cricket ball and filmed what appeared to be a skeleton lying in the kitchen.
The deceased has been tentatively identified as Ameer Khan, a man reportedly missing since 2015. Forensic teams recovered an aged Nokia phone near the body - as technicians reactivated it, they discovered 84 missed calls logged in 2015, helping establish the victim’s identity . Additionally, demonetised ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes found under a pillow suggested the death occurred before the 2016 currency recall .
Police believe Ameer, likely in his 50s, died a natural death and remained undiscovered for nearly a decade in the locked house that belonged to his father, Muneer Khan, who had moved away along with other family members . No signs of struggle were found, and the case is now at the mortuary pending final confirmation.
This discovery underscores how old technology and overlooked details can play a pivotal role in solving long-pending mysteries.
