Over 1 kg of 'unmarked' gold seized by BIS in Vijayawada!

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) officials raided a hallmarking center in Srikakulam district, seizing a fake laser marking machine and 1.072 kg of gold jewelry with invalid Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID).

The raid at Sri Lakshmi Hallmarking Centre in Narsannapeta on Thursday night revealed illegal HUID marking without BIS recognition. Investigation linked the operation to GNR Gold and Diamonds, prompting seizure of gold ornaments from the jewelry shop.

BIS Vijayawada Director Prem Sajani Patnala confirmed a case has been registered under the BIS Act, 2016, with penalties including up to one year imprisonment or minimum ₹1 lakh fine. Officials urged consumers to verify BIS logo, purity, and HUID through the BIS Care Mobile App before purchasing gold jewelry.
