UP woman pens harrowing suicide note on body over dowry harassment!

A 28‑year‑old woman from Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, tragically ended her life after enduring prolonged dowry harassment and physical abuse. Manisha consumed poison on July 15 and left a suicide note inked on her arm, legs, and stomach, accusing her husband, Kundan, and his family of torment. The handwritten message read in Hindi: “Kundan and his family are responsible for my death” .

A video recorded before her death further revealed her anguish - Manisha crying and detailing demands for a car, cash, and even a motorcycle - despite her family reportedly spending ₹20 lakh on the wedding. She narrated repeated physical abuse and alleged that her in-laws forced an abortion. She claimed they had allegedly tried to electrocute her when she resisted their demands .

The couple had married in 2023. Harassment began months later, prompting Manisha to return to her maternal home in July 2024. Her family considered divorce, but she refused until dowry gifts were returned .

Local police have registered an FIR; investigations are ongoing. This case underscores the unyielding cruelty of dowry-driven abuse and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of protections for women in marital households.
