PM Modi lands in Ghana, kicks off 5-Nation diplomatic push!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off his eight-day, five-nation diplomatic tour on July 2, beginning with a two-day visit to Ghana. This marks the first visit by an Indian PM to Ghana in 30 years, underscoring India’s renewed push to strengthen ties with Africa and the Global South.

In Accra, Modi is set to meet President John Dramani Mahama, address Ghana’s Parliament, and witness the signing of multiple agreements spanning healthcare, digital infrastructure, agriculture, education, and defence cooperation. A key highlight is India’s plan to support Ghana in becoming a regional vaccine hub, aimed at enhancing Africa’s health security.

This visit is part of a broader tour that includes Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia, with an overarching goal to build stronger diplomatic, economic, and people-to-people partnerships.

With an agenda focused on technology, trade, and capacity-building, the tour signals India’s ambition to play a greater role in emerging regions, reshaping alliances beyond traditional power centers like the US, Europe, or China.
