Jeevan Malawat from Rajasthan is quietly changing the future of farming through mushrooms. A former schoolteacher, he left his job to pursue mushroom cultivation after seeing the potential of the crop. In 2018, he founded Jeevan Mushroom, a startup that provides high-quality mushroom spawn at a fraction of the market cost. His lab, approved by Rajasthan University and the National Horticulture Board, is now one of the state’s top mushroom spawn labs.
What makes Jeevan’s initiative unique is its affordability and accessibility. His spawn is priced at ₹40 per bag, much lower than market rates, and is trusted by over 2,000 farmers across the country. Beyond just selling spawn, Jeevan also trains farmers especially women through workshops and WhatsApp groups. His startup not only improves farmers’ yields but also empowers them to become self-reliant entrepreneurs.
Mushroom farming, once seen as niche, is now helping many in Rajasthan earn up to ₹40,000 a month. Jeevan’s journey proves that innovation in agriculture doesn’t always require big investment just dedication, purpose, and a desire to uplift others.
