On August 14, 2025, President Droupadi Murmu delivered an evocative speech, blending historical reflection with forward-looking optimism. She began by marking Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, paying homage to the millions whose lives were disrupted in 1947 and urging the nation never to forget those tragedies.
With conviction, she declared India on the cusp of self-reliance, underpinned by a strong economy and narrowing inequality gaps. Calling for pride in indigenous strengths, Murmu encouraged citizens to “go local” as a gesture of national solidarity. She reaffirmed that India’s greatest assets—its Constitution and democratic ethos remain supreme, and called for equality of opportunity across all segments of society.
Murmu also spotlighted the grassroot spirit of governance, referencing “Operation Sindoor,” a symbol of unity and effective leadership, and extolled welfare initiatives that are improving lives nationwide. Her message celebrated the resilience of Indian democracy, the collective efforts of farmers, entrepreneurs, scientists, and the promise of youth and women as catalysts for change. Empathy and progress, she indicated, must go hand-in-hand.
