U.S. President Donald Trump has officially declared two new national holidays to commemorate America's victories in World War I and World War II. Announced on his social media platform Truth Social, the holidays will be observed on November 11, marking the Armistice that ended WWI in 1918, and May 8, commemorating Victory in Europe Day in 1945. Trump emphasized that the United States played the decisive role in securing Allied victories, arguing that Americans have never fully taken credit for their accomplishments.
While these dates are now officially recognized as national commemorative days, Trump clarified they will not result in closures of banks, post offices, or markets. “We have too many holidays already,” he wrote, adding that Americans will continue to work while remembering their past. Trump signed a proclamation designating May 8 as Victory Day for WWII, aiming to renew patriotic pride and historical recognition across the country.
