The opening day of the India vs England first Test at Leeds began with intensity and early drama as India reached 92/2 at lunch, losing two key wickets in the first session. England’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss paid off quickly, with their bowlers exploiting the morning conditions effectively.
Young Indian captain Shubman Gill, leading the side in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, was tested early as openers got off to a cautious start. However, England’s pace attack, spearheaded by veterans and rising quicks, broke through with disciplined line and swing.
Despite the setbacks, debutant Sai Sudharsan and Gill showed composure at the crease, guiding India past 90 without further damage. The middle-order will now be under pressure to stabilize the innings and build a strong first-innings total.
With conditions expected to ease out in the afternoon, all eyes are on India’s batters to regain momentum and on England to keep the pressure alive. The Test is already showing signs of a gripping contest.
