Former US President Donald Trump stirred diplomatic buzz by claiming that India has offered a “zero tariffs” trade deal to the United States. Speaking to Fox News, Trump said, “They’re willing to cut 100% of their tariffs for the United States,” while asserting that trade was his tool for peace, even hinting it influenced a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
However, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar dismissed the claim, clarifying that trade talks are ongoing, complex, and far from concluded. “Nothing is decided till everything is,” he said, emphasizing that any agreement must be mutually beneficial.
Trump also suggested he is using trade leverage not just with India but also Pakistan and China, foreshadowing new import duties in the coming weeks. His remarks reflect a broader strategy to reshape global trade and assert American dominance in international negotiations.
