In a landmark moment for India’s traditional medicine sector, President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the AYUSH University in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant push toward integrating ancient healing systems with modern education. The state-of-the-art institution will focus on Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy, aiming to produce the next generation of holistic health practitioners.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the university as the beginning of a "new era in health and culture" for Uttar Pradesh. He emphasised that Gorakhpur - already known for its spiritual legacy - would now become a national hub for AYUSH education and research.

The inauguration comes as part of India’s broader effort to institutionalise and globalise its traditional medicine systems. The university is expected to offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs, along with cutting-edge research facilities.

This development also aligns with the Centre’s vision to make AYUSH a globally respected healthcare alternative, blending India’s ancient wisdom with evidence-based practices.
