Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again stirred the tech world by hinting that TikTok may soon be sold to a group of “very wealthy people.” While Trump did not disclose names, his statement has raised fresh questions about the future of the platform, which is already under scrutiny due to national security concerns.
This comes amid increasing pressure from U.S. lawmakers to ban or regulate TikTok, citing data privacy risks tied to its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. Trump, who had previously attempted to ban the app during his presidency, now appears to favor a potential acquisition by American investors as a solution.
Though the idea of a sale isn’t new, Trump’s comments have rekindled speculation around whether TikTok might eventually fall into the hands of a powerful U.S.-based conglomerate. Industry insiders believe a major restructuring or change in ownership could completely shift how the platform operates in the U.S.
As TikTok continues to dominate global youth culture, who controls it next could reshape the future of social media entirely.
