Neeraj Chopra made history at the Diamond League in Doha, surpassing the elusive 90m mark with a stellar 90.23m throw. This personal best came despite a week clouded by controversy. His tournament, the Neeraj Chopra Classic, was cancelled due to India-Pakistan tensions, and Chopra had to publicly clarify his strained ties with Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem.
Unfazed, Neeraj silenced critics who doubted his ability to break the 90m barrier. “The burden wasn't just mine; it was on the shoulders of Indians,” he said. Although Germany's Julian Weber clinched gold with a 91.06m final throw, Neeraj's milestone marks a major psychological victory.
With Czech legend Jan Zelezny as coach, Chopra now eyes further improvements ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo this September. Injury-free and mentally lighter, he believes this is just the start of a season filled with potential.
