In a sharp escalation of his attack on the Election Commission, Rahul Gandhi has alleged that the 2024 electoral process was "rigged like a fixed match", claiming the Commission is deleting key evidence rather than addressing transparency concerns. Speaking at a press briefing, the Congress leader accused the poll body of stonewalling his requests for voter lists, booth-level poll data, and CCTV footage - particularly from Maharashtra constituencies where the INDIA bloc raised questions about irregularities.
"They're not answering - they're deleting. This isn’t an election, it’s a scripted outcome", Gandhi remarked, drawing parallels between political control and administrative silence. He demanded that the Election Commission uphold democratic accountability and allow public scrutiny of the data.
The Election Commission has yet to formally respond to these allegations, but the remarks have sparked heated debate across political and civil society circles. The controversy highlights growing mistrust in electoral processes and raises fresh concerns about institutional independence in India’s democracy.
