A celebratory event turned tragic on Wednesday as a stampede outside Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL 2025 victory parade resulted in the deaths of at least 11 individuals, including a child, and left 33 others injured.
Thousands of fans had gathered to celebrate RCB's maiden IPL title, overwhelming the venue and leading to chaos. Despite police advisories limiting entry to those with valid passes, the massive turnout led to a deadly surge.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic, with people climbing trees and gates in an attempt to escape the crowd. Emergency services responded swiftly, transporting the injured to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating, "The pain of the tragedy has erased the joy of victory." He announced a magisterial probe to investigate the causes and circumstances surrounding the stampede.
