Sonam Raghuvanshi, 24, allegedly orchestrated the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their Meghalaya honeymoon, just days after their May 11, 2025, wedding, police revealed. Sonam, with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, hired three contract killers- Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi, ofering ₹20 lakh, including ₹15,000 from Raja’s wallet during the crime. On May 23, in Sohra’s East Khasi Hills, Sonam feigned exhaustion, lagged behind Raja, and signaled the killers to strike with a dao (machete), later helping dispose of his body in a gorge, per Meghalaya Police sources. Raja’s body was found on June 2.

Sonam surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 8, after Kushwaha and the killers were arrested. Superintendent Vivek Syiem confirmed the pre-planned conspiracy, with plans to recreate the crime scene. Sonam’s claim of being a victim was dismissed by police, who cited her call records with Kushwaha.
