Retired Punjab Cop Shoots Son Dead Amid Family Property Dispute!

A shocking incident unfolded in Amritsar as a retired Punjab Police officer allegedly shot his own son dead and injured others during a heated family dispute over property. The accused, identified as Gurdev Singh, a former Assistant Sub-Inspector, reportedly opened fire during an altercation at their home in the Baba Bakala area.

The 35-year-old victim, Lovepreet Singh, died on the spot, while other family members, including Singh’s daughter-in-law and wife, sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital. Preliminary investigations suggest that the dispute had been brewing over the ownership and division of ancestral land and property, which escalated into violence on Sunday.

Police have taken Gurdev Singh into custody and recovered the weapon used in the attack. Authorities are conducting further investigations and recording witness statements. The incident has sparked outrage in the locality, raising concerns about the growing trend of violent domestic disputes, especially over property disagreements.

This case highlights the urgent need for conflict resolution mechanisms within families, and the psychological strain that unresolved disputes can cause even in otherwise law-abiding citizens like a retired policeman.
