This year, the literary award and the P. Kesavadev Diabscreen Kerala Award for outstanding work in diabetes awareness both carry a ₹50,000 cash prize, along with a citation and plaque . Renowned diabetologist Banshi Saboo was selected for the Diabscreen award, highlighting his impactful contributions to chronic disease education and care.

Tharoor’s award adds to his distinguished literary profile, including high-profile recognitions like the Sahitya Akademi Prize for An Era of Darkness, among other accolades . The awards ceremony, expected to take place in Kerala later this year, marks an important cultural moment - bringing together voices in literature and public health under one umbrella of social responsibility and reform.
