Gen Z — the most digital generation - is now turning offline in a surprising way. Instead of just reducing screen time, many are picking up hobbies that were once seen as “old-school.”
From knitting and crochet to gardening and even pottery, these activities - often associated with older generations - are becoming popular again. But this shift isn’t random.
In a world filled with constant notifications, fast content, and endless scrolling, these hobbies offer something different - slow, mindful experiences. They require patience, focus, and real effort, which feels refreshing compared to instant digital gratification.
There’s also an emotional angle. Many young people are looking for calm, creativity, and a sense of control in their lives. Creating something with your hands gives a deeper sense of satisfaction that screens often can’t provide.
Interestingly, this trend is also about redefining identity. Instead of chasing trends, Gen Z is making simplicity and authenticity feel “cool.”
What was once labelled as boring is now seen as self-care. And in a hyper-digital world, going back to basics might just be the real upgrade.
