Virat Kohli named in complaint after IPL celebration turns deadly in Bengaluru!

On June 6, 2025, social activist H.M. Venkatesh filed a police complaint against Indian cricketer Virat Kohli in connection with the tragic stampede outside Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The incident occurred during the Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) IPL victory celebration on June 4, resulting in 11 deaths and over 30 injuries.

Venkatesh submitted the complaint at Cubbon Park Police Station, alleging that Kohli, as a prominent figure in the event, bore partial responsibility for the chaos.

The stampede has raised serious concerns about crowd management and safety protocols at large-scale events. While the exact reasons for implicating Kohli have not been detailed, the complaint underscores the need for accountability among event organizers and public figures involved.

In response to the tragedy, Bengaluru Police have initiated an investigation, detaining four individuals associated with RCB and event organizers DNA Entertainment Private Limited.

An FIR has been filed against RCB, DNA Entertainment, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) under charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and public safety violations.

The incident has also sparked online backlash, with the hashtag #ArrestViratKohli trending on social media platforms. As the investigation continues, the focus remains on ensuring justice for the victims and implementing stricter safety measures for future events.
