Former India captain Virat Kohli is making a sensational return to domestic cricket after 12 years, as he joins Delhi's squad for their Ranji Trophy group-stage match against Railways on January 28 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Despite the excitement surrounding the cricket star’s comeback, fans will miss out on watching the match live due to the lack of telecast or live-streaming arrangements.
Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has announced free entry for spectators, giving fans in the capital a rare chance to see Kohli in action at the stadium. However, those unable to attend the match are left disappointed, with no plans from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to broadcast the game.
A DDCA official explained, “The roster for Ranji Trophy broadcast was finalized months in advance, and Delhi's match against Tamil Nadu had already been aired earlier this season. While Kohli's involvement has raised the profile of this match, arranging live coverage at this stage is logistically challenging.”
Kohli's last domestic appearance was in 2012 during a Ranji Trophy match against Uttar Pradesh. His inclusion in Delhi's squad, led by Ayush Badoni, adds star power to the Elite Group D fixture, which promises to be a thrilling encounter. Kohli missed Delhi's previous game due to a neck injury but is now set to return.
The BCCI had chosen three games for live broadcast this round—Karnataka vs. Haryana, Bengal vs. Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir vs. Baroda. Despite fan's hopes, adding a live-streaming setup at this late stage requires significant logistical efforts, leaving Kohli's much-awaited return untelevised.
