Why is Gudi Padwa Celebrated?
Gudi Padwa is the Marathi New Year, celebrated in Maharashtra and Goa. It falls on the first day of the Hindu month of Chaitra and marks the arrival of spring.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma created the universe on this day, making it a sacred occasion.
People believe that raising the Gudi (a decorated flag with a pot on top) outside their homes brings good luck and success.
How is Gudi Padwa Celebrated?
The day starts with a holy bath, followed by prayers and decorating homes with rangoli. Families hoist the Gudi outside their doors as a symbol of victory and happiness.
Delicious traditional foods like puran poli and shrikhand are enjoyed, and people wear new clothes, visit temples, and exchange good wishes.
Similar celebrations take place in other states, such as Ugadi in South India and Poila Boishakh in Bengal, making Hindu New Year a vibrant and joyful festival across India.
