Why the calmest God gets the most chaotic day of the week!

In Hindu tradition, Monday (Somvar) is considered highly auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva, the supreme yogi and cosmic transformer. But why this specific day?

The word "Somvar" comes from "Som" (moon) and "Var" (day), and Shiva is known as Somnath, the lord of the moon. Mythologically, it's said that Shiva placed the crescent moon on his matted hair to cool his fiery third eye - symbolising the balance between emotion and wisdom.

Another legend ties back to the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), where Shiva drank the deadly poison (Halahala) to save the world. To ease the poison's effect, gods and devotees offered him water and milk - setting the practice of Monday fasts and abhishekam (ritual baths).

Spiritually, Mondays are seen as a fresh start to the week - ideal for invoking Shiva’s qualities of calm, clarity, and detachment. Many observe fasts, visit temples, and chant mantras like "Om Namah Shivaya" for peace, health, and inner strength.

In essence, Monday worship isn’t just tradition - it's a weekly reminder to stay centered, regardless of chaos.
