Earlier this week in Gurugram, 25‑year‑old state‑level tennis player Radhika Yadav was tragically shot dead by her father, Deepak Yadav, at their home in Sushant Lok, Sector 57.
According to Radhika’s uncle, Vijay Yadav, deeply remorseful Deepak admitted the crime, reportedly saying, “Kanya vadh ho gaya, latka do mujhe” literally requesting that he be hanged for committing “female slaughter.” He urged, “Write the FIR so I get hanged”.
Police investigations reveal the dispute centred on Radhika’s tennis coaching: though not a formal academy, she had been training students by booking courts—something her father had repeatedly objected to. Villagers allegedly taunted Deepak for depending on his daughter’s earnings despite his considerable rental income, heightening his resentment.
Tragically, on the morning of July 10, Deepak confronted Radhika in the kitchen and fired five shots; four struck her, and she was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. He has since been remanded to judicial custody as the probe continues.
Beyond courtroom proceedings, the case has sparked broader conversations. A friend and fellow player alleged Radhika endured longstanding parental control—constant shaming for wearing shorts or talking to boys, critics labeling it as patriarchal overreach. Meanwhile, Radhika’s coach described a once-close father‑daughter bond; he never sensed any friction until the catastrophic turn.
