India is home to some of the world’s rarest and most unique wildlife, found nowhere else on Earth. From the elusive Malabar civet in the Western Ghats to the Namdapha flying squirrel of Arunachal Pradesh, these creatures are as mysterious as they are magnificent.
The purple frog, which surfaces only during monsoon, and the lion-tailed macaque, known for its silver mane, are striking examples of India’s rich biodiversity.
Some species, like the Hangul (Kashmir stag) and the Indian pangolin, are critically endangered due to poaching and habitat destruction. Others, such as the Andaman white-headed starling and Nicobar megapode, are island wonders with limited ranges.
The Himalayan wolf and the rediscovered pygmy hog also top the list of rare sightings.
These species highlight the urgent need for conservation in India's national parks and protected areas. For wildlife lovers, spotting these animals in the wild is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that showcases the country’s ecological treasure trove.
