On June 5, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Aravalli Green Wall Project, a significant initiative aimed at restoring the ecological balance of the Aravalli mountain range. This project, inspired by Africa's Great Green Wall, spans four states—Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat—and seeks to rejuvenate the region's degraded landscapes.
Reforestation Efforts: The project focuses on removing invasive species like Prosopis juliflora and planting native trees such as khair, dhau, pilkhan, and salai. These efforts aim to restore the natural flora and fauna of the Aravallis.
Wildlife Conservation: Surveys by the Wildlife Institute of India have identified the presence of various mammalian species in the region, including leopards, hyenas, and jackals. The project aims to protect these species and their habitats.
Community Involvement: Local communities will play a crucial role in the restoration efforts, ensuring sustainable development and active participation in conservation activities.
