An 80-year-old man was booked by Gopalapuram police in Hyderabad on Friday morning (July 4, 2025) for rash and negligent driving after he lost control of his sedan and rammed into multiple vehicles. The incident occurred near the curve after the Iskcon temple towards YMCA, a stretch known for its sharp turn.
According to eyewitnesses, the elderly driver appeared disoriented as his vehicle sped into oncoming traffic, damaging several two-wheelers and another car before coming to a halt. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, though a few motorists sustained minor bruises and vehicle damage.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC for rash and negligent driving. Authorities are also considering whether the man should be medically re-evaluated for his fitness to drive, given his advanced age.
The incident has sparked conversations about the need for regular health checks and driving assessments for senior citizens to ensure road safety for all commuters.
