In its first cabinet meeting, Delhi's newly formed BJP-led government, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, faced immediate backlash for not addressing a key pre-election promise. The meeting, held on February 20, 2025, approved the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme and the tabling of 14 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports on the previous administration's performance. However, it did not include the proposed ₹2,500 monthly financial assistance to women—a significant pledge made during the election campaign.
Former Chief Minister Atishi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the BJP of reneging on its commitments. In a video posted on social media platform X, she stated, "The BJP had promised that in the first cabinet meeting itself, they would pass the scheme in which the women of Delhi would be getting ₹2,500... The first day itself BJP started breaking their promises."
In response, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized the government's autonomy in setting its agenda, remarking, "It's our government; the agenda will be ours. Let us work. She doesn't need to tell us everything; she has done what she has to while in power."
The omission of the financial assistance scheme has ignited a political debate, with citizens closely monitoring whether the BJP will fulfill its electoral promises in the coming sessions.
