West Bengal's ruling TMC has lodged an FIR against makers of Kesari Chapter 2, accusing the film of deliberately distorting history by misrepresenting the contributions of Bengali freedom fighters like Khudiram Bose, Barindra Kumar Ghosh, and Hemchandra Kanungo. The complaint claims the film omits Bengal’s key role in India's independence struggle and insults local revolutionaries .
During a press briefing, senior TMC leaders Kunal Ghosh and Arup Chakraborty criticized the film for glossing over Bengal's rich revolutionary heritage. They questioned how Kesari Chapter 2 passed the Central Board of Film Certification without addressing these historical inaccuracies . Their statement stirred anger among Bengali filmgoers on social media, who accused the filmmakers of undermining regional pride.
The FIR names the producer and the censor board officials, urging a ruling on how the film secured clearance despite alleged misrepresentation. Critics argue this controversy highlights the need for stringent checks on historical narratives in mainstream cinema. With national pride and regional identity on the line, legal scrutiny now threatens to overshadow the film’s box office debut unless the allegations are resolved.
