Prakash Shah, a former Vice President at Reliance Industries and a key aide to Mukesh Ambani, shocked the corporate world by giving up a ₹75 crore annual salary to embrace Jain monkhood, a report by Financial Express reveals.
An IIT Bombay alumnus (Chemical Engineering, B.Tech + M.Tech), Shah led major projects including the Jamnagar petcoke gasification and marketing initiatives. He and his wife, Naina Shah, took diksha on Mahavir Jayanti, stepping away from all material comforts to live a life of simplicity, celibacy, and spiritual discipline. The couple now walks barefoot in plain white robes and relies solely on alms for sustenance .
This transformation was a long-cherished aspiration; the pandemic delayed their plans, but it finally came to fruition post-retirement. Notably, one of their sons had already taken diksha seven years ago.
Prakash Shah’s journey underscores the deep pull of inner peace and spiritual fulfillment, even for someone accustomed to the pinnacle of corporate success.
