Multiple Indian media outlets reported that Pakistan allegedly violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch region, prompting accusations and confusion.
On August 5, 2025, the Indian Army officially clarified that no such incident occurred. The reports alleging unprovoked firing in Poonch were incorrect, and the ceasefire remains intact, according to military sources.
Previously, between late April and early May 2025—following the Pahalgam terror attack—Indian authorities documented unprovoked small-arms firing by Pakistani troops across multiple LoC sectors including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, and Akhnoor. India responded proportionately in each case. While these earlier violations were confirmed, they occurred well before the 2021 ceasefire renewal, unlike the unsubstantiated Poonch claims in August.
This episode highlights the delicate dynamics of LoC tensions—where historical violations can fuel misunderstandings unless verified carefully. The army’s timely response aimed to curb misinformation and maintain trust while the region continues under close surveillance.
