Tragedy struck Gujarat’s Vadodara district on Wednesday morning (July 9, 2025) when a portion of the Gambhira Bridge near Mujpur in Padra taluka collapsed, causing four vehicles to fall into the river below. According to initial reports, at least three people are feared dead, while four others have been rescued alive by emergency teams.
The incident occurred during peak morning hours, leading to immediate chaos and panic in the area. Visuals from the site showed broken slabs of the bridge submerged in water and rescue teams using boats and cranes in their search and recovery efforts.
Local authorities have cordoned off the area, and a probe into the cause of the collapse has been ordered. Early suspicions point to structural weaknesses possibly exacerbated by recent heavy rains.
The state government has expressed grief over the incident, and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has assured swift rescue and compensation for the victims’ families. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also been deployed to assist in ongoing operations.
