In a rare escalation since the 2021 ceasefire agreement, Pakistani forces violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district's Krishna Ghati sector on Wednesday. The unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops targeted Indian Army posts, prompting a strong and “befitting” retaliation, security officials reported.
The extent of damage on the Pakistani side remains unverified, but officials claim that the enemy forces suffered "heavy casualties." While the Indian Army has neither confirmed nor denied these reports, a video circulating on social media allegedly shows a Pakistani officer paying respects to fallen soldiers.
The violation comes amid a spate of hostile incidents along the LoC, including an IED explosion that killed two Indian Army personnel in the Akhnoor sector just a day prior. Additionally, a junior commissioned officer (JCO) sustained minor injuries after stepping on a landmine while patrolling in the Tarkundi area. The JCO was promptly evacuated to a military hospital.
This incident marks the first ceasefire violation of 2025 and adds to the growing tension along the LoC, with four cross-border incidents reported in just five days. Indian security forces are on high alert to thwart infiltration attempts by terrorists, particularly in sectors like Rajouri and Poonch.
Amid these developments, Lieutenant General Navin Sachdeva, GOC of the White Knight Corps, reviewed the situation in Rajouri and urged troops to maintain vigilance and operational readiness. The Army continues to monitor the LoC closely to counter further provocations and infiltration attempts.
The situation remains tense, with both sides bracing for potential escalations.
