In the digital age, where images travel faster than light, deception often lurks in plain sight. A viral photo claiming to show Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi dining with former Pakistani PM Imran Khan has set social media ablaze. But is it real? A fact-check reveals a very different story.
A closer look exposes that the image is digitally altered. A reverse image search led to a tweet from July 6, 2015, by a Pakistani journalist, originally showing Imran Khan dining with his then-wife, Reham Khan.
Further, a Dunya TV report from the same day confirmed that this moment was captured at Faisal Vawda's residence during a Sehri gathering. But where does PM Modi's image fit in?
Using Google Lens, analysts traced Modi's original photo back to November 13, 2013. The Indian Express had published the image, showing Narendra Modi (then Gujarat CM) having lunch with journalists at his residence in Gandhinagar. Clearly, someone stitched two unrelated photos together to create a deceptive narrative.
This incident underscores the dangers of misinformation in the digital era. A single manipulated image can shape public opinion, ignite controversies, and mislead millions. The next time you see a shocking viral post, take a step back. Truth, after all, is just a fact-check away.
