DU’s dating school? New course will teach you to spot toxic love before it’s too late!

Delhi University is breaking new ground with its upcoming elective, "Negotiating Intimate Relationships", debuting in the 2025–26 academic year for all undergraduate programs.

Developed by the Psychology Department, this four-credit course tackles the emotional minefield of modern love - think Tinder, Instagram, jealousy, heartbreak, and red flags.

Structured across four dynamic units - friendship and intimacy psychology, love theories (like Sternberg’s triangular model), red-flag detection, and strategies for thriving relationships - the course blends academic insight with real-life relevance . Students will engage in weekly lectures and interactive tutorials, analyzing social media networks, dissecting cinematic romances like Kabir Singh and Titanic, and exploring real-world dating dilemmas .

This pioneering course comes in response to alarming incidents in Delhi - three recent youth-related murders tied to online jealousy - highlighting the urgent need for emotional intelligence and safe boundary-setting. DU’s bold move aims to equip Gen‑Z with the tools to recognize unhealthy patterns early, prevent emotional trauma, and build satisfying, respectful relationships.
