Rescuers recovered two more bodies - a man and a woman - on June 10 following the devastating landslide that engulfed an Indian Army camp in Chaten, North Sikkim, nine days earlier. Their identities are not yet confirmed.
This brings the total recovered to three out of six missing individuals. Earlier, Army jawan Sainudheen PK’s body was found, confirming at least one soldier among the casualties. The ongoing search, led by the Indian Army alongside local authorities and disaster response teams, continues amid the rugged terrain and unstable weather.
The June 1 landslide also left three injured and disrupted roads and telecom lines across North Sikkim. Despite these challenges, rescue teams have evacuated around 2,000 stranded tourists by road and air since last week .
Authorities remain hopeful that continued operations will locate the remaining missing persons and bring closure to their families.
