The CBSE has approved a historic shift for Class 10 board exams - starting in 2026, students can take the exam twice in one academic year. The first phase, held in February, will be mandatory for all, while a second, optional phase in May allows students to improve marks in up to three subjects, including Science, Maths, Social Science, and two languages .
Designed to align with the NEP 2020’s focus on reducing exam stress, the dual-exam system gives students a second chance without losing a year. Internal assessments will occur only once and will apply to both attempts. Results for the February session are expected by April, and the May retake results by June .
This student-friendly reform aims to promote continuous learning, ease pressure, and offer flexibility. CBSE plans to publish detailed schedules and guidelines soon, ensuring that parents and educators are well-prepared for the revamped framework.
