Food is something that connects people, no matter where they are from. But did you know that the same dish can have different names in different countries? As food travels across the world, it changes a little but still stays the same at its core.
Take dumplings, for example. In Nepal and Tibet, they are called momos, in China, they are dim sum or jiaozi, in Japan, they are gyoza, in Poland, they are pierogi, and in Italy, they are ravioli. Some are steamed, some are fried, and the fillings are different, but they all share the idea of delicious stuffing wrapped in dough.
Another example is flatbread. In India, people eat roti and naan, in Mexico, they make tortillas, in the Middle East, there is pita, and in Ethiopia, people enjoy injera. Even though they are made in different ways, they all serve the same purpose, soft, tasty bread to enjoy with meals.
Even rice dishes have different names around the world. In Spain, it's called paella, in India, it's biryani, in Korea, it's bibimbap, and in the Middle East, it's kabsa. They all use rice as the main ingredient but mix it with different spices, meats, and vegetables.
Food tells the story of how people and cultures connect. The next time you eat a dumpling or a flatbread, remember- it may have a different name, but it has traveled far and carries history and tradition in every bite!
