Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has warned that Lebanon is on the verge of a new war following Israel’s retaliation against rocket attacks launched from Lebanese territory. Salam cautioned that renewed military operations along the southern border could drag Lebanon into another devastating conflict.

The warning follows Israeli army chief Eyal Zamir’s pledge of a severe response to the intercepted rockets, holding Lebanon accountable for maintaining stability. Former Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman criticized Prime Minister Netanyahu, blaming him for failing to ensure national security amid rising attacks from Gaza, Yemen, and Lebanon.

In response to the cross-border rocket fire, Israel launched artillery and airstrikes, putting further strain on an already fragile ceasefire with Hezbollah. The recent escalation, after nearly three months of calm, has heightened regional tensions. Salam emphasized that Lebanon will not be drawn into conflict without taking necessary security and military measures to assert its sovereignty over war and peace decisions.
