Karnataka High Court is set to deliver a bombshell verdict today (June 12) on the legality of arresting RCB marketing chief Nikhil Sosale and three DNA Entertainment executives in the aftermath of the deadly crowd crush outside Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. The incident tragically claimed 11 lives and injured over 50 fans .
Petitioners argue their arrests were arbitrary - based on an alleged oral directive by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah - and lacking proper legal procedure . The state, countering, insists the arrests were justified, noting no prior permission was obtained for celebratory event and promotional tweets triggered massive unruly crowds. The Advocate General highlighted that Sosale attempted to flee the country and that standard protocols - including provision of grounds of arrest - were followed .
Meanwhile, the CID has withdrawn its request for further custody amid ongoing HC proceedings . With both sides grilling the court fiercely, today's judgment will determine if the detentions violated constitutional rights or stand as lawful enforcement over the tragic event.
Stay tuned for whether interim relief is granted.
