₹5 lakh bounty Maoist leader shot dead in Chhattisgarh

Security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district have intensified their anti-Maoist campaign, continuing operations even as monsoon conditions complicate logistics. A recent encounter resulted in several Maoist deaths—some reports suggest up to two, while others cite higher figures as part of ongoing efforts.

The joint operation, involving the District Reserve Guard (DRG), CoBRA commandos, Special Task Force (STF), and CRPF units, is based on intelligence indicating Maoist presence in core forested zones. One of the deceased was identified as a local outfit leader carrying a ₹5 lakh bounty. Security personnel recovered an INSAS rifle, 12-bore, and other arms and ammunition.

Despite challenging terrain and seasonal rains, authorities assert operations will persist. This follows a series of major offensives—16 Maoists were killed in March, with additional strikes noted earlier this year.
