French politician Raphaël Glucksmann has ignited a heated debate by suggesting that France should reclaim the Statue of Liberty from the United States. Speaking at a political convention, Glucksmann accused America of forsaking the ideals of liberty and democracy that the statue represents.
He criticized U.S. policies under Donald Trump, citing the suspension of aid to Ukraine and budget cuts to scientific research. Glucksmann also lashed out at France's far-right leaders for supporting Trump and Elon Musk, whom he mocked for leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
His remarks have triggered mixed reactions, with some supporting his stance and others dismissing it as political theatrics. As tensions rise, the question remains, does the Statue of Liberty still symbolize what it once did?
