The streets of Kolkata are set to witness the revival of a true cultural icon, the legendary yellow taxi! Once a defining feature of the city's charm, these classic cabs had begun to fade away.
However, thanks to a new initiative by the West Bengal government in collaboration with a private enterprise, they are making a stylish comeback this time, with a modern twist.
Transport Minister Snehasis Chakraborty officially launched the first fleet of 20 'Yellow Heritage Cabs' on Friday, with Transport Secretary Soumitra Mohan and other officials in attendance.
While these taxis retain their signature yellow aesthetic, they now come with essential upgrades like seatbelts, airbags, and improved comfort.
What makes this revival even more exciting? Commuters can now book these taxis through the government’s 'Yatri Sathi' app, making the experience convenient and hassle-free. This initiative is not just about transportation, it's about preserving history while embracing the future.
The revamped taxis aim to blend nostalgia with modernity, offering passengers a safe yet heritage-rich travel experience. As the fleet expands, Kolkata's love affair with its yellow taxis is set to be rekindled, proving that tradition and progress can go hand in hand.
So, the next time you're in Kolkata, why not hop into a Yellow Heritage Cab and take a ride through time, only this time, with a seatbelt on!
