Bengaluru is famous for its traffic jams. Roads are packed, and getting anywhere takes a long time. But what if math could help? Researchers from Vellore Institute of Technology believe it can!
They studied the busy JP Nagar to Hebbal route and used a special Hamilton Circuit Algorithm to redesign bus routes. Instead of straight, crowded paths, they suggest circular bus routes that spread out traffic more evenly.
Here's how they did it: They turned roads and intersections into points on a map. Then, they used an algorithm to find the best way to visit each important point only once before returning to the start. To avoid bad routes, they used a method called backtracking, which removes paths that lead to heavy traffic.
After testing many options, they found twelve possible routes and picked the top three based on traffic flow, distance, and fuel use. The best route? Bellary Road. It showed less congestion and lower fuel consumption than the others.
If Bengaluru adopts this system, it could mean faster travel, fewer traffic jams, and lower fuel costs helping not just bus passengers but everyone on the road. While traffic won't disappear overnight, this research gives a smart, data-driven solution to improve Bengaluru's roads.
